Today, multi-GRAMMY Award-nominated and critically acclaimed country iconoclast Charley Crockett releases his new album, Age Of The Ram. The album serves as the finale of his epic saga, The Sagebrush Trilogy, and marks his third full-length release in just over one year. The LP, which joins 2025’s Lonesome Drifter and the GRAMMY-nominated Dollar A Day, traces Crockett’s path from a Texas dreamer and New York street singer to his rise in country music. Like the previous two, Age Of The Ram was co-produced by Shooter Jennings at the venerable Sunset Sound Studio 3 in Los Angeles. Listen HERE.
About the album, Crockett explains, “Age Of The Ram is the story of Billy McLane, a small-time cattle rustler who finds himself in the crosshairs of the Santa Fe ring. Pursued by bounty killers working for the shadow syndicate, Billy McLane escapes into the Crazy Mountains, where the outlaw will become a legend.”
Crockett previewed the album with “Fastest Gun Alive,” following “Kentucky Too Long,” which Rolling Stone hailed as “a guitar-heavy lament,” while Whiskey Riff raved, “The bass-heavy melody, soaked in steel guitar, transports the listener to a small blues bar with the sonic feel.”
After threading characters and storylines across Lonesome Drifter and Dollar A Day, Crockett brings the narrative to a head with Age Of The Ram, a boundary-pushing concept record. Structured as a three-act arc, the project traces the evolution of its central figure from “The Drifter” to “The Rustler,” and ultimately to “The Outlaw,” as characters introduced in earlier chapters finally collide. Rooted in guitar and pedal steel, the album reverently echoes the legacies of Willie Nelson, Gram Parsons, and Waylon Jennings, while incorporating unexpected textures from piano, harp, and keys.
With Age Of The Ram, Crockett sings straight from the soul, tells arresting stories of outsiders, gunmen, fiends, crooks, and femme fatales with a screenwriter’s knack for dialogue and a novelist’s attention to detail. It’s a standout collection from country music’s most prolific artist, rooted in the blue-collar work ethic that’s defined his path. Check out the full tracklisting below.
